¡Hola!
I am Gen Ramírez, a typeface and graphic designer, calligrapher, and sign painter with a deep commitment to the craft of letters.

My work bridges traditional calligraphy and sign painting with contemporary type design and digital tools. With international experience in both design practice and teaching, I bring a multidisciplinary approach to creative problem-solving, team leadership, and community building.
I have a strong foundation in typeface design, interpolation, and variable font technologies, immersing myself in advanced calligraphy, lettering, and typographic practice with leading international practitioners.
I graduated from TypeMedia at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK), The Hague. Complementing this, I trained at the Type@Cooper Extended program in San Francisco and the Condensed program in New York
Professionally, I co-founded Dual Type, a Mexican–Croatian design studio dedicated to type, editorial, branding, and digital design. At Dual Type, I lead the development of retail and custom typefaces, overseeing projects from concept to production.
Beyond the studio, I co–founded and direct Letrástica, a biennial typography festival in Guadalajara, which has become a significant platform for the exchange of ideas among designers, educators, and students in Latin America.
As an educator, I teach calligraphy, type design, and sign painting at Type@Cooper and TypeWest, where I design workshops that bridge historical traditions and contemporary digital practices. My teaching approach emphasizes both precision and expressiveness, encouraging students to develop their own voices through deep engagement with letterforms.
My background also includes work at the intersection of design and technology for public institutions, where I analyzed administrative processes and helped conceptualize open-source frameworks for government-level software development. This experience sharpened my skills in project analysis, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and strategic thinking.
I am motivated by collaboration and thrive in environments that bring together diverse skills and perspectives. I see myself equally as a leader and a reliable team member, committed to building processes that value craft, criticality, and cultural impact.
